Die Kontroverse geht weiter: Eine europäische fallkontrollierte Studie mit Daten der European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (1994–2000) ergab keinen statistisch relevanten Einfluss des Vitamin D-Spiegels auf die Entwicklung von Prostata-Krebs.
Die Forscher aus sieben europäischen Ländern untersuchten 652 Fälle von Prostata-Krebs und eine Kontrollgruppe von 725 Gesunden über einen Zeitraum von mehr als vier Jahren.
